Japan- Northern Honshu- Jizo Status, Shogun Tokugawa, Going by lift to see waterfalls!

These are Jizo statues and that are the guardians of Children, hence they are the most popular in Japan.

These were place here around 1534, however the total number seems to change when you try to count them.

This set is sometimes called bakejizo or phantom Jizos

The Nitto Toshogu shrine built in 1617.

It enshrines the the first shogun Tokugawa who after great battles united the country and brought order, organisation, and created education and industry.

His leadership laid the foundation for 260 years of pease and culture in the Edo Period.

The Sacred Stable of Lord Tokugawa that housed his horse that he rode in the Battle.

The building is famous for the 8 panels that teach children how to lead an ideal life.

This one you will recall, it dates from around 1600

The Gate to the inner shrine - the most ornate in Japan

Just have to love these 400 year old cedars

The wisdom from Lord Tokugawa “Life is like a journey carrying a heavy load- there is no need to rush”

That would be nice, but in the 20th C it’s rush rush.

This is his burial chamber. His style of government ruled from 1603 to 1867.

The Japanese build great road tunnels, but I have never visited such a tunnel to a waterfall.

A side tunnel leads to the viewing platform of the Fukuroda Falls

NOW you take the elevator up the height of 5 floors for the grand view of the 120m falls,

We are used to trudging rough trails, this is too much luxury, we walked back using the old track!

Fish n Chips Japanese style

Crispy fish on a stick ( actually really nice) and boiled traveling nibbles

Following dotted lines again.

Does not always work when its at the ned of the road

Road was a dead end !!
