South Korea...WHY ??

We have planned 4 months in Japan, however the allowed visa is 90 days so a quick 56 hour trip to Seoul will re-start our 90 day visa.

That was just enough time to visit the DMZ and saw hello to Mr Kim... just disappointed he did not turn up.

Lyn looking into North Korea

“ Where are you Mr Kim”

One of the many bunkers from the 1950 Korean War

This train ran supplies to the troops in now what is the DMZ. It came under heavy attack by the Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army. The train driver survived and lived on to 103.

With more than 1030 bullet holes it actually reached Jangdan station. Later recovered it’s now on permanent display at the peace park

Another tourist attraction we had to visit as Lyn ‘loves’ suspension bridges… not

Rubbish!

Small size piece of dough with a hint of honey.

No photos allowed but we walked down and into the No3 tunnel the North Koreas dug AFTER the peace declaration. It was dug by hand in 1974.

The existence of the tunnel was made known by a North Korean defective, who was actually shot many times during the escape.

The exact position was not known so the south drilled 107 x 7.5mm holes into the ground every 2 meters in the expected area and pumped them with water. 3 years later a soldier noticed water spraying out of the ground. The plot was discovered and was 1200m inside South Korea.

It’s now a tourist attraction, and a big income earner for Sth Korea.

North Korea said they were looking for coal !
