EU Part 12 Denmark, Germany, Holland
Thursday, 16 May 2019 2:15 pm

So we returned to check it out 3 weeks later.
Very steep and very very Zig Zag.

The road leads to the end of the fjord and a light house.
Past this old and ‘need of some small repairs’ landing barge.

Our ship, the Norröna is in port waiting for us.

Goodby Iceland
3 days later we are in Denmark
Saturday 18th May 2019:

We have 5 days before our ship leaves to the UK so studied what to see in Denmark, Germany and Holland.
First up north Holland ( Jutland) :
The largest shifting sand dune in Europe ! ‘ The Rabjerg Mile”
Moves East at the rate of 18m /year and covers an area of one square kilometre and a height of 40m

This is the very tip of Holland.
Like Cape York many locals come here to stand in the waters where the country ends and the Kattegat and the Skagerrak sea meet in turbulence.
Camp E111 : Truck stop camp.
Cost: Nil
Altitude: 12 metres
Temp 14*C
Today and the last day in Iceland 267 Kms
EU Total : 12,093 Km.
Sunday 19th May 2019:

Lindholm Høje.
It’s a major Viking burial ground just outside Aalborg.
The graves here at the higher part predate the Vikings and are from the iron age - 400AD.
The lower Viking part is where the males are buried in boat shaped graves and the women on round graves dates from 600 to around 1050AD.
Interesting to note that the traditional Viking burial was where the body was cremated, on site, so that the spirit reached Valhalla quickly, whereas after 900, with the Christian influence, the bodies were buried intact.

Just out of town these high German fortifications built during WWII.
In fact all along the coast we see similar structures as this was part of Hitlers “Atlantic Wall’
These had four 38cm guns that could fire an 800kg shell 42kms !

The North Sea on the left and with all the flat ground behind the sand dune, a significant number of wind turbines. Here the wind is almost uninterrupted and is an ideal location.

Camp E112 : By the sea and wind turbines - Hvide Sande
Cost: DKK140 (A$30)
Altitude: 12 metres
Temp 20*C
Today 301 Kms
EU Total : 12,395 Km.
Wednesday 22nd May 2019:

The last couple of days was a drive through Germany and into Holland.

Thousands of miniature figurers, cars and trains spread over 2 floors on a big industrial building.
A truck stop camp just outside Amsterdam and have to see some of the tourist sites in Zaandam.
Camp E115 : Outside a mates place in Amersfoort / Holland
Cost: Nil
Altitude: 6 metres
Temp 14*C
Today Kms
