T49 Tanzania - The Serengeti, Lake Victoria

Friday, 28 April 2017 2:19 am

It was cold last night, very cold.

This morning thick fog that hung around till well after we left camp at 8am.

Road speed 20KPH

As we descended from the crater rim, very slowly we arrived below the cloud bank and animals started to appear.

The more we looked the more we see.

We leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and into the Serengeti  National Park.

Yes it is $$$’s but where else do you see thousands of animals that form their own road block.

The road surface is rough and extremely corrugated. Speed is either 25KPH or 60+ KPH, in between everything is just torn apart.

Speed limit is 50KPH !

The Maasai herds people also have access to the area for their goats.

You actually need a US$300 license to photograph the locals but in this case I took a photo of the road condition with my GPS and he just popped up !

We stopped for morning coffee and these two friendly ladies came up and chatted. We gave them some biscuits and they then asked if we would like a photograph...yes please !

This time of the year, the wildebeest are starting to gather in very large herds in preparation for the migration.

During calving time 8,000 are born every day in the Serengeti.

Only 40% survive the first 4 months.

Our biggest surprise of the Serengeti was 4 tree climbing lions in one tree.

We had time so we headed into the northern section where the mass migration takes place in June to September where 2 million mass to complete the clockwise migration of the Serengeti.

Already many varieties in huge numbers

Everywhere so much wildlife

Friday 28th April 2017:

As much as the cost is just stupidly unbelievable, you can maybe ‘only just’ justify it to yourself  when you see the abundance of wildlife.

Thousands of Zebras...

We roughly counted in excess of 1,000 Wildebeest in this one herd alone and this is one of many hundreds of herds we saw.

Just when the extreme corrugated roads were getting the better of me and I was about to threaten to stop driving these shit roads we see a Cheetah.

Watched it for 1/2 hour then we hear of a Leopard in a tree about 3 kms away.

Forget the $$’s it’s worth it !
