Adventure 1.1 : The Snow Fields of Cape York - The Track Out - 79 Kms
Sunday, 21 June 2015 6:39 am

The track to the White Sand Complex (White or Round Point) was originally bulldozed back in the 70’s by Dal Nixon from Nixon Homestead.
Over the past 30 odd years we have driven and now that the track is all but gone we now travel by Quads and navigate by GPS.

Nixon Homestead land has been returned to the ‘Originals’ and access difficult, hence we follow an old shot line I found many years ago from Bramwell Station that connects with the original track.
Packed and set to go.

20kms from Bramwell is our 10 year old blaze mark that marks the start of our GPS track.

Just as well I have the GPS points as the old shot line no linger exists.

In places some of old Dal Nixon‘s track is just visible.

A slight mis-calculation on entering a creek.

In most places the track is nonexistent and we are pushing scrub.

In some places major tree removal is necessary.

Our second night is spent on the banks of the McMillan River.

The camp is surrounded by flowering Banksias and Cooktown orchids.

And we are into the first of the Dune Country.
From here the old track follows the McMillan River for part the way.
